AFL 2024: Geelong spearheads Jeremy Cameron and Tom Hawkins to miss clash as Tanner Bruhn a test

Chris Scott had ruled out Tom Hawkins, but that was before Jeremy Cameron’s concussion diagnosis. The Cats have decided whether he will face the Suns. Meanwhile, a star is in doubt.

Geelong has decided to rest champion Tom Hawkins for its clash with Gold Coast on Thursday night despite Jeremy Cameron’s concussion blow against Port Adelaide.

Cats coach Chris Scott said on Friday night that he would be rested for the Suns contest but that was before Cameron had been placed into concussion protocols on Saturday.

It means the Cats will go into the contest without their two spearheads, opening the door for athletic 203cm forward Shannon Neale to play his second senior game of the season.

Hawkins is poised to break Geelong legend Joel Selwood’s games record against Greater Western Sydney in round 11.

Midfielder Tanner Bruhn (shoulder) will need to pass a fitness test to face the Suns after missing the loss to Port Adelaide.

Geelong coach Chris Scott said before their loss to Port Adelaide that the Cats had planned to rest him to ensure he was fresh for their match-up with the Suns, but he is no certainty to return this week.

Bruhn was listed as a test last week with the shoulder setback he sustained against Melbourne in round eight.

Young ruckman Toby Conway is available for selection after he missed the match with the Power and the Cats’ previous VFL match with a hip flexor complaint.

Captain Patrick Dangerfield remains on track in his recovery and is 2-4 weeks away from returning.
