Kawasaki recalls 200 Ninja ZX-4R motorbikes from 2023

A legendary motorcycle brand has issued an urgent recall for some of its bikes for a potentially fatal manufacturing flaw.

Safety inspectors have issued an urgent recall for 200 Kawasaki motorbikes, warning consumers the bikes have a potentially fatal manufacturing flaw.

The recall alert was issued this week for Kawasaki’s Ninja ZX-4R 2023 model, with all variants within the model affected.

“Due to a manufacturing defect, spark plugs may have been damaged during assembly,” the government’s safety regulator states.

“This may lead to unstable idle, hesitation and possible engine stall while riding, resulting in a loss of motive power.

“A loss of motive power whilst riding increases the risk of an accident, causing serious injury or death to the rider or passenger and other road users.

“Owners of affected vehicles can contact their authorised Kawasaki dealer to have the spark plugs replaced, free of charge.”

The Ninja ZX-4R was priced about $11,500 according to bikesales.com.au, with the model offering riders a 400cc engine.

The recall follows a 2021 recall of 30 Ninja ZX-14R bikes over missing brake components.
