A heroic quick-thinking driver has saved a young boy from being hit by a car after spotting him wandering in the middle of a dark road in Sydney.

Nathan, 3, snuck out on Saturday night while his family was loading furniture into their car, according to 9 News.

That’s when the driver came across him dancing in the headlights as he drove along Tompson Road in Panania.

Luckily, both oncoming drivers saw him and stopped just in time, with one rushing him to the safety of the footpath.

“I stopped to save him,” the man told 9 News.

“This place is very dark, so, I have to stop and I pick up him from the street.”

He said there was also another car coming up fast behind him.

The boy’s worried family frantically arrived 10 minutes later to pick him up after noticing he had snuck out.

“Thank you so much,” the boy’s brother Michael said of the driver that stopped.
