Tech-packed cars deliver new level of personalisation

This popular brand used to sell on looks and driving thrills alone, but the latest model has upped the ante with some clever, easy to use features.

Wild new tech coming to your next car

Mini has reshaped the dashboard screen, literally.

The brand’s latest range of vehicles all feature a 240mm circular OLED screen, one of the first of its kind in the automotive industry.

The OLED screen is not just a display but an extension of the driver, much like a smartphone or tablet. The screen allows users to change wallpapers, personalise sounds, and even play DJ with virtual turntables.

And like any good smartphone, there is a camera that allows drivers to snap selfies with friends during a road trip – provided the car is stationary. Drivers can even upload snaps of their kids or dogs to the centre screen.

The camera also combines with a Mini app to serve as a security feature, allowing owners to remotely check the interior of their car.

Head of Mini interior design, Sebastian Kroes said the eight modes offered the driver the option to customise their Mini to their liking.

“Think of experience modes as immersive individualised experiences, which you can choose from depending on your personal taste or mood,” he said.

These modes can be switched seamlessly, providing a tailor-made experience every time you get behind the wheel.

Kroes said the new screen provided a link between the car and everyday digital life.

“You have a seamless transition between what you are able to do on your phone, but also within the car,” he explained.

One of the standout features in the new Mini range is the experience toggle, a unique system that offers eight different modes of personalisation.

Whether you’re in the mood for a calming drive or a high-energy cruise, the experience toggle has a setting.

Each mode offers a bespoke set of sounds, colours and patterns that complements the driving experience.

This innovative OLED display is included in three models: the compact Cooper hatchback, the spacious Countryman family car, and the upcoming Aceman electric car, which fills the gap between the two.
