Honda, Mitsubishi start fresh Takata recalls, buybacks
Manufacturers have announced buyback schemes for 42,000 cars fitted with potentially deadly airbags, including the popular Lancer and Accord.

Mitsubishi and Honda have started recalls for 42,000 cars with airbags linked to the deaths of two Australians.
The manufacturers will buy back cars fitted with Takata NADI 5-AT airbags between 1996 and 2000 — vehicles that were not part of existing Takata airbag recalls.
Honda Legend, CR-V and Accord models built between 1998 and 2000 are affected by the issue, as are Mitsubishi’s Pajero, Lancer, Express, Mirage and Starwagon.
Toyota already announced recalls for cars such as the pre-millennium RAV4, as have Audi and BMW.
A small number of Ford, Suzuki and Mazda vehicles are also affected.
ACCC chair Rod Sims says people should make sure their car is OK to drive by checking registrations online via www.ismyairbagsafe.com.au.
Honda and Mitsubishi will arrange alternate transport arrangement for affected vehicles before negotiating buyback payments through a third party.
