Ford cuts Mustang Mach-E prices

This electric Tesla Model Y rival has had a second price cut in six months, joining a growing trend of discounting in response to slowing growth.

Ford has slashed the price of its electric Mustang Mach-E by up to $15,000 from its original price.

The Blue Oval has cut the price of its Tesla Model Y rival for the second time in the past six months.

The Mustang Mach-E now starts from $64,990 plus on-road costs – some $15,000 less than the car’s launch price last year. That’s an $8000 cut from revised pricing that made the car more attractive in December last year.

The mid-range Mach-E Premium has been cut to $79,990 plus on-roads, which is $11,675 less than its launch price.

Ford has reinvented the door

Top-end Mustang Mach-E GT models have dipped below six figures for the first time, to $97,990 plus on-roads, $9675 less than the car’s launch price.

Ford’s E-Transit electric van also benefits from a $15,000 price reduction that takes it to $89,990 plus-road costs.

The manufacturer has also linked with Evie Networks to install home charging packages for $2580, which includes $400 of credit to be used at Evie chargers around Australia.

The changes are a response to widespread price cuts in the electric car market, led by the Tesla Model Y that now costs just $55,900 plus on-road costs.

Rival brands such as Polestar ($15,000), Renault ($10,000) and Peugeot ($15,000) have also cut prices in response to softening demand for electric cars.

Andrew Birkic, President and chief executive of Ford Australia and New Zealand, said the changes made electric cars more accessible.

“These MLP price reductions offer even greater value to our customers and it makes these great vehicles an option for more people,” he said.

“Being able to avoid the cost and inconvenience of the petrol station and just plug in while

you’re at home is a big value-add for EV owners, so helping our customers to facilitate home

charging while they’re at the Ford dealer makes perfect sense.”

But the changes have been made in response to the car’s lukewarm reception from customers. So far this year, Ford has sold just 223 Mach-Es, compared with 8001 Tesla Model Ys.
