An 80-year-old pensioner claims she was forced to hand over $2500 to an Uber driver who drove her to the bank and demanded she withdraw cash from an ATM for minor damage to his car.

Judy Libby spoke about the ordeal on Melbourne’s 3AW Radio on Friday morning, saying she got into the row with the driver after a minor car accident in Melbourne’s CBD.

Ms Libby said the driver was stopped when she hit his boot, leaving a dent in the back of his car.

“He said I’m an Uber driver, you’ve ruined the back of my car. I’ve got a wife and child to support now I can’t work,” she told the radio station.

“He said, I’ll go and get a quote. I’ve got a friend who’s a panel beater. He rang me back at 11pm and said you owe $4,000.”

Ms Libby said she told the driver she didn’t have $4000, with the Uber driver saying “well how about $2500”.

The pair then planned to meet at her local bank - however when the teller refused to give her the money due to suspicion about the transaction - the Uber driver then allegedly took her to a different bank in his car, forcing her to withdraw the money.

“I told him I never want to see you again. He was very, very angry,” Ms Libby said.

“It’s been an absolute nightmare.”

Ms Libby then said she later received a legal letter, demanding she pay another $8800 for the damage. The letter made no mention of Ms Libby paying the man $2500.

The pensioner then told her daughter who reported the incident to police. The case is now with the fraud squad, Ms Libby said.

“I wasn’t travelling at a speed to do huge damage. I had no damage on my car just a few scratches,” she said.

“And he had an older car too, so $8800; no. I didn’t write it off I just hit his boot.”

3AW host Russel Howcroft called the incident “disgraceful”.

“Fancy putting someone in their car and driving them to a bank branch,” he said.

Victoria Police and Uber have been contacted for comment.
