Alfa Romeo unveils stunning supercar

Breathtaking machine promises to combine classic styling cues with shocking power to rival the latest European supercars.

Alfa Romeo has returned to its roots with a gorgeous two-seat supercar.

The Italian marque unveiled its answer to the Ferrari 296 and Maserati MC20 this week, unveiling a modern tribute to the 1967 Alfa Romeo Stradale supercar.

It’s exactly what fans of the brand have been waiting for – a driver-focused machine that swerves around the trend for high-riding SUVs.

The car also offers customers a choice between traditional petrol power, in the form of a twin-turbocharged 2.9-litre V6 shared with the Giulia Quadrifoglio sports sedan, or a more modern electric alternative.

The petrol model sends 462kW to the rear wheels through an eight-speed ducal-clutch automatic transmission similar to what you’ll find in the latest Porsche 911 or Chevrolet Corvette.

Battery-powered models have even more grunt, boasting 560kW of thrust that pushes the car well into supercar territory.

Both models claim a sub-three-second dash to 100km/h, and a top speed of more than 330km/h.

The catch is that only 33 examples will be built, and all have been spoken for. It’s unlikely any of the 33 cars are coming to Australia.

Alfa Romeo did not publish a price for the new car, which is rumoured to cost about $5 million.

The brand expects that no two Stradales will be identical, thanks to an extraordinary level of personalisation that allows owners to tweak functional elements such as wheels, intakes and the front grille, along with conventional colour and trim options.

Jean-Philippe Imparato, Alfa Romeo chief executive, said the brand wanted to make Alfa fans proud.

“Such a result could only have been achieved thanks to the expertise, hard work and passion of our team, with the support of management who have the clear ambition to contribute to writing chapters in the brand’s future, in full respect of its unique history,” he said.

“This is the brand’s first custom-built car since 1969, and I promise it won’t be the last.”
