Chery is serving up another budget-friendly family SUV.
The Chinese brand has announced its Tiggo 7 Pro will arrive before the end of this year.
Prices start at $39,990 drive-away, which is substantially more than rival machines such as the Haval H6 and MG HS that start in the low-$30,000 range.
It joins the Omoda 5 as the second model in the emerging brand’s local line-up.
Chery Australia Managing Director, Andy Zhang, says: “The Tiggo 7 Pro is an effortlessly impressive vehicle that combines style, space and safety to deliver a medium SUV that will prove the perfect fit for Australian families.”
Chery will launch the mid-size SUV in three model grades: Urban, Elite and Ultimate.
Prices jump $2000 to the Elite and a further $3000 to the range-topping Ultimate.
All versions are powered by a 1.6-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine that makes 137kW and 275Nm.
This is paired to a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. Ultimate versions upgrade to all-wheel drive from front-wheel drive.
Chery claims fuel use of 7.0L/100km.
It has seating for five and a giant 626-litre boot, which is one of the biggest in its class.
Every Tiggo 7 comes with a wide array of active driver aids and eight airbags.
It’s more conventionally styled than the Omoda 5 and the cheapest examples come with LED lighting front and back, 18-inch alloy wheels and a full-size spare tyre.
Step inside and you can expect faux-leather heated front seats, ambient lighting, a panoramic sunroof, dual-zone aircon and a wireless device charger.
There are two 12.3-inch touchscreens, one for the infotainment and the other for driver’s instruments.
It has Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as well as in-built satnav and an eight-speaker Sony stereo.
The Elite grade adds a power tailgate, bird’s eye view camera, auto folding mirrors, air filter and an optional black roof.
Move up to the Ultimate variant and you can expect 19-inch alloy wheels, red front brake calipers, memory driver seat function, ventilated front seats and multiple driving modes including Sport, Snow and off-road among others.
Chery backs its vehicles with a seven-year/unlimited km warranty and a capped price servicing program of the same length.
