An eyewitness told this masthead the man threatened police with a knife.
“Last night my partner and I were just in the living room across the road from where the incident took place, in a big apartment block, we’re like 25 levels up and we had the door open and heard all the commotion,” she said.
“He was just screaming, yelling, swearing, and then a few moments later he came out with a chainsaw and was just kind of doing laps around the frontyard and up and down the street.
“Then he went back inside the house and it went quiet for a little while, that’s when we heard the sirens and all the cops rocked up.
“They’ve gone inside to try and talk with him, and he’s come out with a massive knife and charged at one of the police officers, and that’s when he got shot.”
A young girl who was at McDonald’s across the Gold Coast Hwy when the shooting occurred also shared her account.
“We were just across the road at Macca’s and we saw all these cops pull up, so we came to take a look,” she said.
