LIVESTREAM: Players to watch at Water Polo Queensland State Titles

It started early in the U12s and continued with an U16 double as powerhouse club Mermaids dominated grand final day at the state titles on Tuesday. Relive all the action from a big day at the pool.

Over the past three days, the future of water polo battled it out at the Queensland Water Polo State Titles at the Gold Coast Aquatic Centre.

Teams from the U12s and U16s age groups battled for gold and ultimate bragging rights.

Powerhouse club Mermaids once again proved their dominance by taking three golds.

Results Gold v Silver (Field 1)

The Gold Coast Boys Whites 16&U team has won what could be the first of two state titles for the age category.

The team beat Warriors 7-6 to win the gold medal. Making the win even more impressive is the fact the average age of the team was 14, with only one player from the side set to move on to the 18&U ranks in 2024.

It means the current champions will be back biger and stronger next year.

Meanwhile, many of the players will look to defy the odds again by competing for Gold Coast’s 18&U team next week.

In the 12&U Girls White gold medal playoff, AHS White defeated Brisbane Girls Grammar in a low-scoring game.

The Brisbane sides were seperated by just one point, with AHS coming out on top 3-2.

The 12&U Girls Maroon featured a Mermaids Pink v All Hallows Blue matchup for gold.

Mermaids asserted themselves as the top team and won 6-4 in good contest.

The score was not at close in the 12&U Boys gold medal match, when Yeronga-based club Mantas defeated University of Queensland Water Polo Club 13-4.

Once again Mermaids triumphed in the 16&U Girls White match for gold. They defeated Somerville House 11-5 and were not shy to boast their glory in celebrating.

In the 16&U Girls Maroon gold medal game, it was the Mermaids’ unmatched defence that separated them from the Polo Bears.

The scores were close for the first three quarters before Mermaids broke away in the final 10 minutes to win 8-4.

The final gold medal play off of the day was the 16&U Boys Maroon between University of Queensland WPC Purple and Polo Bears.

In the end, it was UQ who were victorious, winning 13-8.
