Woman shares horror injuries from viral TikTok egg hack

A British woman has issued a warning after attempting to cook poached eggs in the microwave using a viral TikTok and suffering horror burns.

Viral egg hack destroys woman’s face

A UK woman whose face was badly burned attempting to cook poached eggs in the microwave using a viral TikTok has spoken out against the cooking tip, warning others not to try it.

Chantelle Conway, of Farnworth, near Manchester, England, shared her horror burns, telling viewers she’d “burned my whole face and neck off” following the hack, when the egg exploded unexpectedly and burst onto her face.

Her TikTok video, shared on July 12, has been viewed over 120,000 times and urged people to think twice before attempting the trick to cook eggs quickly.

“Please, please, please people stop doing ur poached eggs in the microwave. I was very, very unlucky. I’ve now just got to leave it to heal,” the 25-year-old wrote.

The poached egg hack Chantelle tried has been gaining popularity over the last few months for being a “no fail” way to get perfect poached eggs.

It involves cracking an egg into a container of water with a tablespoon of vinegar and blasting it for 90 seconds in the microwave.

However, unbeknown to Chantelle, it was a recipe for disaster.

The mum-of-two explained in her viral video that the cold spoon she used to remove the egg reacted to the boiling water, causing scalding liquid to shoot all over her “face and neck”.

“It’s burst all over my face, it’s the worst thing I’ve ever gone through,” she explained on the social media platform.

Chantelle, who was home alone with her 18-month-old daughter Heidi-River Ball at the time of the accident, quickly doused herself with cold water, which doctors later said spared her from suffering third-degree burns.

The badly scalded woman then called her ex-partner Mark Ball, 34, who drove her to the Royal Bolton Hospital.

Doctors applied a jelly mask to her injuries and gave her morphine for the pain, beginning her lengthy healing process that she has been documenting on TikTok.

Over the weeks, her face blistered and peeled, dead skin coming off in the mum’s hand.

“It was silly of me to do it, and I just want more people to know what can happen, so it doesn’t happen to anyone else,” she tells followers in one video.

“I get flashbacks, and it’s put me off cooking. I’ll never have an egg again because I’m so traumatised.”

Her face is now looking “much better” in her most recent video.
