'Time for intervention!' Snow goer’s rant about ski season etiquette backfires

Many comments flooded through saying that day pass holders weren't the 'selfish' and 'entitled' ones hitting the slopes...

Here I was thinking that the most selfish people on the slopes each winter were cocky snowboarders zooming past inexperienced skiers like me, snow plowing all the way down a green run.

(snowboarders, you can come at me in the comments, it's fine...)

But apparently I'm wrong.

The most selfish and entitled people can be found before you even hit the mountain. In the car park. And depending on what pass you have, you could be on either side of the debate that's currently dividing Aussies.

"Time for an intervention!"

An Aussie snow goer hit a private snowy mountains Facebook group, insisting it was time for an "intervention" after seeing too many people do the same thing when visiting the region during the popular snow season.

The image shared was of a full car park, with an update for Thredbo and Perisher Valley visitors informing them that the parking area was at capacity for the day.

The problem? Day pass holders were taking up all the room early during the day, meaning season pass holders, who might've decided to visit a little later in the day, kept missing out.

"So with this frequent occurrence happening is it time for an intervention with NPWS?" the person asked.

"Season pass holders who have paid deserve the right to access any park (after all you have paid for seasonal access). Is it about time that NPWS not sell day pass access to the park until after a certain time to allow season pass holders entry first?"

Um.... you're the problem, mate!

While the post was intending to seek validation, majority of the comments issued anything but.

Instead of agreeing that something needs to be done about the lack of adequate parking, many accused the OP as being 'entitled' and 'selfish' for thinking they deserved special treatment because they could afford more than a regular day pass.

"Pay for priority huh. Such a Sydney solution to the problem," one person commented.

"Oh no! The person who can afford a season pass is missing out on a car space because a family that can only afford a couple of days in the school holidays got there first," another chimed in.

And another wrote: "I guess a day pass holder could argue that they’re paying a lot more per day so they’ve got more right to park than the Season holder. Just get up there early!"

"Everyone knows school holidays is a nightmare. Get up earlier or just avoid it. Shove your priority ticket idea. Enjoy the rest of your season out of school holidays," another added.

What's the solution here?

But it wasn't ALL hate.

Some people did agree with the Aussie's complaint, saying they too are sick of the car park always being full.

"Agreed. Every winter it’s the peak weekends that are a mess. [Resorts] should be doing more to limit access with a pre-booked parking system as a free add-on to lift passes. No booking on weekends, take the tube. Same with Thredbo on weekends, except take the bus," someone suggested.

Others insisted that poor planning and inflated ski tube prices have led to this mess, and a bigger car park has been needed for some time to accommodate visitors during peak season.
