A GOLDEN rule of having fun — to eat before you drink — has been scrapped after a Gold Coast burger bar invented a healthy way to do both at the same time.
Cue the margarita acai bowl.
Gold Coast eatery Ze Pickle has combined our two favourite food groups just in time for summer celebrations.
Burleigh burger boys Nathan Zuckerman, Aaron Wilson and Joseph Day who are known for their crazy creations have come up with a tequila inspired recipe that promises to “blow your mind”.
The new taste sensation, which was launched last night, took the bosses of Ze Pickle 10 months to create after many trials and errors.
“We couldn’t decide whether to put it on the drinks list or under breakfast because it’s a bit of both,” Mr Zuckerman said.
“We made an entirely new menu for it for summer and called it the margarita menu.”
The secret recipe to the margarita acai bowl includes 60ml of George Clooney’s very own tequila — casamigos blanco tequila. This is blended with açai, peanut butter and apple juice garnished with fresh passion fruit, strawberry and coconut shavings in a cup.
Mr Zuckerman and Mr Wilson said they were inspired to create the crazy new food group after a few big nights out.
“We were bringing a little bottle of tequila to splash on to our breakfast acai on a Sunday morning and we just thought, why not have both?”
“The other thing was that usually you should have something before you drink but we have made that two-part step into one.”
Mr Wilson said the team had “dead set nailed it’’ with their new margarita menu.
“We’ve had a lot to drink in the past 10 months trying to get the flavours just right because when you add alcohol to food it’s not always a great idea,” Mr Wilson said.
“But this was a great idea.”
The bowls are topped off with gogi berries and shaved coconut.
