Trying to find a car space at any busy time - think shopping centres over Christmas, or at the beach on a 35 degree day - can be a task to say the least.
So, if you’re heading out with people in a second car, you might be tempted to hop out and reserve a spot for them after you’ve nabbed one yourself.
Well, according to most people, it’s about time you get that idea out of your head.

Is this acceptable??
A Brisbane Reddit user has taken to the platform to vent about a frustrating experience that happened to them in a local shopping centre.
The user said they were trying to find a place to park, when they came across a woman standing in an empty car space, seemingly reserving it for a friend.
But, the question remains - is this actually okay?
“Person standing to hold a car park - acceptable in Australia?” the post began.
“Happened to me in Brisbane yesterday. It was an EV charging car spot. I didn't cause a scene (just asked what she was doing) and parked elsewhere. Came back in 10mins to the lady gone and I took the park.”

“Why is this becoming so common?”
Commenters on the post were quick to confirm that the act is not only unacceptable here, but also literally anywhere else, calling it entitled and unAustralian.
“I don't think it's acceptable anywhere in the world,” said one commenter.
“About as UnAustralian as walking straight past the sausage sizzle at Bunnings,” another agreed.
“Why is this becoming so common? I hate people,” another said.
“Nope, someone did this to me last week also, I said hell no…” a fourth person explained.
The Kidspot team weighs in
To get an answer once and for all, the Kidspot team has weighed in, and the result is a resounding ‘no’.
“Absolutely not. It's wanker behaviour! When I see videos online of people doing this it makes me irrationally angry. You can't gatekeep car spaces,” said Lauren.
“I think it's entitled and I would never do it - even it was an extremely busy time. Having said that, I also wouldn't try and take the spot from someone doing so. I guess that's what people like this bank on... people not being bothered to cause a scene and therefore get away with it,” Leah agreed.
“No if your car isn't already sitting and waiting then you've got nothing to claim with,” said Clara.
