Tamborine Mountain Distillery opens new cocktail bar

It’s won more than 350 national and international awards for its booze, now a Gold Coast icon will be treating drinkers with a new offering.

AUSTRALIA’S most awarded distillery is set to open a new cocktail bar in the Gold Coast Hinterland.

Tamborine Mountain Distillery, which has claimed more than 350 national and international gongs for its range of spirits and liqueurs, will open an intimate drinking den this Saturday at their Macdonnell Rd distillery.

Head distiller and co-owner Gordon Chalmers has spent months fitting out the former shop space at the front of the property with recycled and reclaimed timbers and materials sourced from across Queensland, including bookshelves from a defunct Brisbane Max Brenner chocolate shop.

“I’ve probably covered 10,000km buying things off Gumtree and picking up pieces here and there,” Mr Chalmers said.

A new cocktail bar will launch on Saturday at Tamborine Mountain Distillery.

The result is what he describes as Elizabethan architecture “but taken up a level of quality”, with bentwood barstools and stunning box brush and Sydney blue gum features. “It will look like Vienna in 1940,” he said.

The cocktail bar will initially open Friday-Sunday for guests, before transitioning into seven days a week. It will serve a range of elevated cocktails using their award-winning products; alongside a casual, no-cook menu designed by local chef Kate Raymont, including the likes of pate and cheese platters featuring as much local Scenic Rim produce as possible.

The venue will also operate as a training room and host distilling masterclasses.
