PRAISE the lord! This Gold Coast church has made a howler of biblical proportions, and it’s not the first time their innocent messages have rubbed people the wrong way.

The Anglican Church of the Holy Spirit in Surfers Paradise’s latest message to the community reads “LOVE DOESN’T RUB IT IN, LOVE RUBS IT OUT”.

The seemingly innocent message may hold a double meaning for those with a dirtier mind, especially considering the church’s recent history with controversial signs.

In June this year, the Isle of Capri church received nationwide attention for its sign that read “FORGIVENESS IS SWALLOWING WHEN YOU’D RATHER SPIT”.

The sign was later ordered to be taken down by the Anglican Church Southern Queensland Diocese.

The latest sign raises questions of whether the church is attempting to drum up another round of media attention with its cheeky sign.

The Gold Coast Bulletin contacted the church’s Reverend Mike Uptin for clarification, but has not received a reply.

Surfers Paradise MP John-Paul Langbroek, who spotted the sign gaffe first time around, said the latest public message was “risky” but believes the church wouldn’t have done it on purpose.

“I think you could have a dirty mind about everything,” Mr Langbroek said.

“Given what happened last time, I don’t think it was on purpose.

“(Rev Mike Upton) doesn’t strike me as someone who would do that.”

Mr Langbroek suggested someone may need to ‘lend a hand’ to the church to make sure their signs can’t be taken the wrong way.

“I thought they’d be much more careful since what happened last time.”
