Sunflower fields make The Farm and Co Kingscliff an Instagram hotspot

IF our Instagram feeds are any indication, sunflowers make the ultimate selfie backdrop — and there’s a field right around the corner.

A FIELD of sunflowers at Cudgen is proving to be a bloomin’ marvellous backdrop for selfies.

The crop at The Farm and Co Kingscliff has started popping up in social media feeds and even the owner is slightly mystified about the flowers’ popularity.

Michele Stephens has owned the hidden gem for 16 years and never realised she was sitting on a “gold” mine.

“We get heaps of people stopping by to take photos,” she said.

“The sunflowers have only been here for a few years but I had no idea they were so popular ... I guess it could be a trend that comes from Europe with their flower fields.”

Ms Stephens said some Gold Coasters travelled several hours to get snaps with the bright blooms.

“A lot of people tell us we’re a best-kept secret because they’ve been driving down to Byron or out to Warwick to get pictures with the flowers,” she said.

Ms Stephens, who also sells fresh vegetables, says she plans to open a cafe.

“We’re a farm first and foremost – we have cows and chickens and sell fresh veggies,” she said.

“We’re also launching our cafe ... we want to offer an experience. I think that’s what people are really enjoying at the moment, they’re dining but also get to walk around the farm and see the animals.”
