After meeting on The Bachelor Australia in 2021, Jimmy Nicholson and Holly Kingston have emerged as yet another success story from the unpredictable reality TV love machine. As they prepare to tie the knot next weekend in an intimate ceremony at Jimmy’s family home in Sydney, the couple sit down with Stellar to give us the scoop on the dress, the honeymoon and the story behind their unusual “ninja vows”

You got engaged in Italy last year and are tying the knot in a ceremony at Jimmy’s family home on Sydney’s Northern Beaches next weekend. Tell us about the wedding.

Jimmy: We didn’t want to have this over-the-top, lavish wedding. [The location] means something to both of us, it’s a super sentimental place. It’s not a small wedding, but it’s not massive. It’s going to be a pretty intimate ceremony – my parents’ dog Billie, who I brought

on Holly and mine’s first date on the show, is the ring bearer.

Holly, can you give us a sneak peek of what your dress is like?

I feel like I have heard this many times that when you’re a bride, you always go in with an idea of what you want, and then you end up picking the exact opposite. I wanted to be fairly traditional but also, fashion is a massive thing for me. It’s not going to be a subtle piece. Jimmy said, “Oh, maybe we can ride into the reception on my motor bike.” And I was like, “Mate, you have no idea, this thing is about two metres long.” It’s pretty glitzy, let’s say that.

And your vows?

Jimmy: Our relationship is built on love, but we do take the piss out of each other on a daily basis. We’re doing “ninja vows”. We write vows that are things she might not be happy that I do at the moment, that she has to promise me she’s not going to comment on [when we’re married].

Holly: And we’re going to have our highlights from The Bachelor; that’s going to be on loop somewhere on a screen.

A lot has changed on The Bachelor Australia since your season aired in 2021. How do you reflect on that time in your lives?

Jimmy: Holly and I watched our season once, and we didn’t watch it again. It was only the other night, where we watched highlights again. We were both like, “Holy sh*t! I forgot about that.” It was a surreal feeling for us. We feel like a normal couple. You actually pinch yourself, what are the chances of two people going on a show and actually getting married and having a future? We feel pretty lucky.

Holly: A lot of these franchises are many seasons in and production kind of want to amp up the drama. A lot of the core of why people watch these shows is because they want to see a love story. A lot of those love stories are starting to die off a bit because the drama is becoming the forefront of it. We’re lucky that we were kind of the last ones of the original Bachelor format. Now they have the three guys. We could have met at a bar – we lived 10 minutes from each other. We ended up going through television to find one another.

What are the plans for the honeymoon?

Jimmy: It’s two days after the wedding. The wedding is on Saturday night and Monday, we are off. We start in Italy, where we got engaged last year, then Greece and Spain.

Holly: We’re doing a lot of travel, which has been a real dream. We’re ambassadors for Luxury Escapes. And I am starting a brand, an accessories label, I am dealing with suppliers and all that – hopefully it will be up and running by summer this year.

What is it like watching shows like The Bachelor now that you’ve been through it?

Holly: I am a bit of a reality TV sucker. Some of the magic is taken out of it, you can see what’s prompted, or whatever he or she says there is induced by production. We have such a soft spot for the show. We wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for it. No bad things to say about it. There’s always going to be that personality type who doesn’t mind being in the spotlight.

Jimmy: Holly and I didn’t apply for the show, we were asked to apply. I went in and thought, if I meet someone, great. If I don’t, I’ve pushed my comfort zone a bit. People who go on it who are desperate and apply every year, you can see through it. Some more genuine people would be nice.
