More and more Australian shoppers are heading in-store and online for a gift that won’t melt this Easter.
While chocolate is still traditionally the most popular treat, Australian Retailers Association chief executive Paul Zahra says many shoppers, and parents, are seeking out other forms of indulgence across the Easter season, “particularly as it falls during a school holiday period”.
“Gifts such as clothing, sleepwear, games or toys can provide enjoyment across the Easter break – serving as a long-lasting holiday treat,” Zahra says.
“Arts and craft gifts can keep the kids preoccupied during those chaotic Easter family gatherings. They’re also a good way to promote thinking and creativity.”
New research by ShopFully Australia shows hampers are the most popular gift choice for Easter, with 24.9 per cent of those surveyed planning to purchase one.
About 28.6 per cent will purchase candles and home decor, and 21.2 per cent will buy gift vouchers or experience gifts.
“Craft kits and books are also trending, perhaps hoping to encourage kids off technology for the long weekend,” Brendan Straw, country manager of ShopFully Australia, says.
“For last-minute shoppers, alcohol is always a convenient option, as are indoor plants, both readily available at major supermarkets.”
