Shopper unimpressed by $10 Kmart item

A shopper has unexpectedly gone viral after sharing her reaction to a $10 item – and has also attracted the wrath of “Kmart mums”.

Picking the perfect Christmas tree can be an overwhelming task, with all the big retailers like Kmart and Myer having a range of offerings at very different price points.

But one customer didn’t get quite what she expected from Kmart when she ordered her tree, sharing her surprise in a TikTok.

Her joke video has since backfired, with the shopper now claiming she had “Kmart mums yelling” at her after the TikTok went viral.

@lils.drum purchased the $10 Columbia Pine Christmas tree from Kmart, posting her hilarious reaction and joking in the caption: “@kmartaustralia you have some explaining to do.”

Her video compared the photo of the tree on the box with the rather sparse looking branches it displayed in real life.

The video got over 2.7 million views, with plenty of people seeing the funny side alongisde @lils.drum.

“As a Kmart employee, I take no responsibility for this,” one viewer joked.

“It’s still loading give it a sec,” another said.

“No amount of fluffing is going to save that,” one commented.

But her video has also prompted plenty of shoppers to defend the much-maligned tree, saying it just needed some TLC.

“You spend $10 what did you expect,” one commented.

“Honey … fluff the freaking tree,” another viewer wrote.

“I can hear the Kmart mums yelling ‘fluff it’ from here,” another joked.

In response @lils.drum posted a follow up video saying: “To literally everyone who’s been saying, ‘you haven’t fluffed it out yet and you need to leave the little tree leave and blah blah blah’. OK, I get you I hear you but she still looks sad, does she not?”

She also said that since posting the video as a “joke” she has had “Kmart mums yelling” at her “through a phone screen”.

Morale of the story is — always fluff your Christmas tree and never get on the wrong side of Kmart mums.
