My friend tried to charge me $10k to be a bridesmaid, so I pulled out

"I kid you not. I think I was in the wrong tax bracket to be friends with this person," the woman laughed.

A bridesmaid realised she was "in a different tax bracket" to her soon-to-be-married friend after she was asked to fork out $10k to be part of her wedding.

The Australian woman, Grace, was excited to be part of the bridal party until she found out the eye-watering cost and decided to bow out.

Here's what went down.

It was a $10k package for each bridesmaid

Speaking on Nova's Smallzy's Surgery, Grace phoned in to relay the shocking story on a segment about friendship dramas.

"My drama focused more around finances," she shared live on air.

"The bridal drama was that it was a $10,000 package to be involved in the wedding," she continued.

Smallzy was left totally gobsmacked at the confession and asked Grace to expand on what the money would be spent on.

I pulled out of my friend's wedding after she tried to charge me 10k to be a bridesmaid??

Apparently, the $10,000 package that each bridesmaid was expected to pay would cover the bridal shower, bachelorette party, pre-wedding spa holiday and the destination wedding itself.

Grace broke down the costs further, explaining, "[There was a] $250-a-head bridal shower with her mum and all her aunties, there was a $500 bachelorette party, there was a pre-wedding holiday to prepare and a spa weekend. And the wedding in Bali."

"I kid you not. I think I was in the wrong tax bracket to be friends with this person," she laughed.

She added that she "graciously stepped away" from the offer and hoped her friend would find someone else who could help fund "the wedding of her dreams."

The pair had met at their private high school

Grace then went on to explain that she had been friends with the bride since they attended a private high school together.

"Now let me preface this by saying I was on a scholarship. I was that kid in hand-me-downs. I bought my own car and this doll was rocking up in her daddy's Mercedes," she said.

"I really didn't expect an invite, let alone a bridesmaid invitation.

"So when it came I was already a little bit like, 'Oh, okay, it has now come to my attention that potentially this girl doesn't have that many friends."
