Samantha X bares all about Gold Coast men

As one of Australia’s most well-known escorts, Samantha X originally labelled Gold Coast men as “laddie, beer-drinking bogans”. But her recent visit to the Glitter Strip has left her pleasantly surprised.

“THANKS for that.”

For the past 25 minutes Samantha X has been talking openly about her life as Australia’s most well known escort.

Nothing has been taboo, then she breaks from the phone interview to say “thanks for that’’ — and explains to the Bulletin she was just hopping out of an Uber.

One can only imagine the face of the driver, who had unsuspectingly picked up one of the country’s highest paid escorts, as she proceeded to talk about what Gold Coast men were like in the sack and recounted tales of past jobs.

But for Ms X, who has reached celebrity status through her books and advocacy for sex workers, this is her life, an open book on the sex industry, and she has bared all in this interview about her trip this week to the Glitter Strip.

It was her first time back to the Coast in a long time. She had previously lambasted Queenslanders, but her tune has changed about the Sunshine State.

“I loved it, the men are gentlemen,” she said.

“I apologise to the men of Queensland, I got it wrong, I assumed they were really laddie, beer drinking bogans, but I met some really beautiful men.

“I eat my words because Queensland men love the company of women and they are much nicer than Sydney men.”

Ms X said she was pleasantly surprised about the deviant side of Gold Coast men.

“Gold Coast men have a deviant side to them. They might be all thongs and board shorts, but once the boardies come off, they’re little deviants.

“And they tend to look after themselves.

“One of the things I did notice about the Gold Coast is that the men have a good sense of humour. They don’t take themselves too seriously, which I really love.

“I’m easy going so I felt very comfortable there (when she visited) and I’d love to live on the Gold Coast one day.”

And she revealed it was not just the Gold Coast men who wanted her company, with local women also getting in contact with her to be mentored about the industry.

“I’ve had a few women from the Gold Coast who have flown down to meet me, because I do mentoring sessions on how to work in the industry. These women all have the same thing in common — they’re all separated, they’re all over 35 and they’re just normal women, single mums.

“I never glamorise the industry, there’s pros and cons, it’s honest.”

And honest she is, especially with her clients, who treat her like a part-time psychologist.

“Quite often men will think they’re looking for intimacy and that’s what they want, but when they turn up, it’s actually like popping a balloon, they just wanted a safe outlet to talk.

“I sometimes say to men ‘do you think you need to see a psychologist, because they’re a thousand dollars cheaper an hour than what I am’.

“A lot of men feel it’s a safe space with me.

“I had a client the other day in Brisbane, who just cried and cried. I’m sure he wasn’t intending on that happening, but I think he was just incredibly lonely.

“There are some very lonely people out there, even though they have full lives, great jobs, perfect family … there’s a void and it’s always the people you least expect.

“They walk into the hotel room, they look good, they smell good and they think they have it together, but then you scratch beneath the surface, which they’re not used to and it all comes out.”

She said no matter how powerful men were in their day to day life, they were intimidated by her.

“I do think men are (intimidated by me). It makes me smile because no matter how powerful the man is in his life, whether he’s a CEO, a celebrity or an athlete, when they walk into the room they’re trembling.

“It makes me laugh. I’m so normal and dorky, I’m very knockabout, but you need to get these guys relax straight away so I dress very casual, which makes them feel relaxed. The more relaxed I am, the more relaxed they feel.”

Men just wanted someone to kiss and cuddle, to have a little bit of intimacy with, according to Ms X.

“Some clients make a big hoo-ha about whether I do this or that in bed, can I wear this, but then they turn up and they aren’t even looking at what I’m wearing. I’ve had clients who don’t even want to have sex, they just want to talk instead.

“The request I get the most is do you kiss and cuddle and that’s what I find men really want. I mean sex is sex, it’s all over within seconds anyway. It’s more the intimacy and I really mean that, it’s about the connection.

“I’ve got clients I’ve seen for years and it’s not because of the sex, it’s the intimacy, going out for lunch, talking and just being intimate with another human being they feel they can be themselves with.

“So many men get up, have to go to work, have to perform at work, go home, if they’re in a relationship they have to be the provider, they have to be strong … where’s the outlet for them?

“I’m not saying every man suffering should go and see an escort, but I’m saying where is their emotional outlet?

“They don’t want to be seen as weak, they have to be a big man. I think since doing this job, I really understand men now, I understand them and love them a lot more, because I know how vulnerable they can be.”

Ms X said her personal life was quiet.

“In my real life I’m pretty much celibate and that’s by choice. I decided 2019 was the year I wasn’t going to get involved with any man, unless someone special knocks on the door.

“I was in a relationship last year. That (breakup) knocked me around and I just wanted to make 2019 a year of growth … I’m working on myself.

“In my real life I don’t date men. I’m not ruling it out, but because I date for work, I don’t really want to do it when I’m at home.

“When I used to work for magazines, I didn’t want to read magazines in my spare time, because you knows what goes into it.”
