CROISSANTS have become the new best thing since sliced bread.
Local and Co. Cafe has introduced the smashed avocado croissant, which co-owner Sam Mustafa said was part of his mission to create dishes unlike anything Tedder Avenue has seen before.
“In our endeavour to create new and exciting dishes for Local & Co., we decided that rather than serving our smashed avocado on toast, we would serve it in a croissant,” he said.
“Nobody does it this way and everyone loves croissants.
“We’re pretty sure that everyone will absolutely love what we have created.”
Since Burleigh Social and Bam Bam Bakehouse used croissants for their eggs benedict, Gold Coast eateries have become creative with France’s iconic pastry.
Local and Co opened its doors yesterday and Mr Mustafa said the response confirmed their hunch the public would love the creation.
“Our avocado croissant has been one of our most popular choices today, so we know we are on a winner,” he said.
“Traditionally croissants are eaten as snacks or treats — now our customers can enjoy as a complete meal.
“The response on day one has been overwhelming.
“We had planned to open at 6.30am but we ended up opening at 6am as we already had customers wanting to come in.”
Bam Bam Bakehouse continued its croissant creativity with sweet cream filled croissants available on weekends and The Croissant King pop-up shop will soon operate out of Ball Boy Meatballs in Mermaid Beach.
