Rachael Finch has hit back after receiving an Instagram message accusing her of “abusing” her children by “underfeeding them”.

The former Miss Universe Australia turned TV host, who frequently shares her family life on the social media platform, shared a screenshot of the message to her account, along with her own furious response. The 34-year-old shares two children, eight-year-old Violet and five-year-old Dominic, with husband Michael Miziner.

“Hi Rachael, I’m (sic) been following you for years, have bought most of your kissed earth products, however I need to say, what your (sic) feeding your kids is a form of child abuse,” the message to Finch read.

“They’re underfed, and extremely underweight. Please feed them more. You are denying them a childhood. I have no doubt Violet will grow up some form of eating disorder with what you feed her.

“I will no longer be purchasing your products, (as great as yet may be).”

Finch – who has been on the receiving end of similar criticism before – wrote she feels “lucky” to “have the emotional support at home to help me deal with these types of comments”.

“Child abuse. Eating disorder. Underfed. How would you respond? Would you respond?” she said.

“For those who [have support] this could be dangerous. Despite the fact that this person has no clue about our child’s wellbeing besides a few food posts I make from time to time, it plays on your thoughts and feelings.

“This post is purely a reminder to think twice before you speak or type.

“You don’t have to agree with everyone, but you should keep your potentially damaging comments to yourself.

“Spread kindness instead please.”

Finch, who avoids feeding her children processed foods, said on the It’s All Her podcast last April that cruel trolls often comment on her kids’ bodies.

“I’ve had so many comments like, ‘Your kids are too thin, you’re depriving them of a childhood, they’re going to grow [up] with mental disorders, they’re going to hate you when they’re older, why don’t you let them live their life?’” she said.

“[People] see me cooking stuff at home and because I like to share a lot of the healthy versions of what I make they think that my children are deprived and it’s really sad.”

While in 2017, she told Stellar that Violet didn’t have sugar for the first few years of her life – and understood it was a treat only.

“For the first two-and-a-half years of her life, Violet didn’t know what sugar tasted like, and she still hasn’t had lollies,” Finch said.

“Sometimes at birthday parties, people don’t have sandwiches or sushi or fruit, so before she goes I make sure she’s full of healthy food.

“I’m with her and while I don’t say no to everything, she understands it’s a treat when she has a tiny slice of birthday cake.”
