PATRICK Wallas loves surprises so the All Saints Anglican School headmaster organised one for his Year 12 students as a treat for finishing the Queensland Core Skills Test.
Teachers dressed in colourful costumes and burst into the exam room as the 198 students put their pens down, marking the final QCS ever to be taken.
The surprise dance party, which finished to the song Footloose, included a confetti cannon which covered the gym in specs of silver.
Mr Wallas, who has worked at the school for 17 years, said he knew some of the seniors since they started their schooling journey.
“They’re just a beautiful group of kids, they’re like family members,” Mr Wallas said.
“I just love surprises.”
Student Bella Baldi, 18, said she got a shock when confetti started to fly in the exam room.
“I didn’t expect it all, it was really good that they’ve done that,” she said.
“I definitely got a shock.”

However, it’s not quite time to rest for the region’s school seniors with subject exams still on the way.
“I’m going into shutdown, I’m going to spend the next few days studying for my exams,” Bella said.
School captain Cullen Cooper-Jones said the teachers did a good job of keeping the surprise a secret.
“I never thought I’d see something like that at school,” he said.
