A YOUNG whale has been freed from shark nets off Surfers Paradise this afternoon.
A Surfers Paradise lifeguard said the whale was cut free by Boating and Fisheries officers.
“It’s good result,” he said
One beachgoer said although she had been unaware of the rescue mission happening just off the beach, she was glad the whale was able to be saved.
It’s believed the whale was caught in the net off Surfers Paradise for about 30 minutes before it was cut free.
The whale and its mother have since been seen swimming away from the area.
