Venomous snake hospitalises woman on the Gold Coast

This tiny snake may be no bigger than a fork, but a close call on the Gold Coast has seen a woman taken to hospital after she found the slithering creature in her home.

A tiny snake has hospitalised a woman on the Gold Coast, amid fears she was bitten by the venomous snake earlier today.

Paramedics were called to Tarrant Rd near Gold Coast Springbrook Rd at Mudgeeraba just before midday after reports a person may have been bitten by an unknown snake.

Tony Harrison from Gold Coast and Brisbane Snake Catcher said he was called in to assess the small serpent, which was barely the size of a kitchen fork.

He said the woman came quite close to danger.

“She wasn’t sure if she was bitten but after contacting us we confirmed that the snake was a yellow faced whip snake and they usually have a very painful venom,” he said.

“The lady was not in pain which leads us to believe she wasn’t bitten but we suggested she visit a doctor or hospital.”

SNAKES OUT IN FULL FORCE ON COAST

Mr Harrison said the yellow-faced whip snakes can cause bruising and swelling which can last for weeks, though they aren’t deadly unless the victim suffers anaphylactic reactions.

He said it was important locals err on the side of caution and seek medical care if they think they’ve been bitten.

The woman was taken to Robina Hospital in a stable condition.
