THEY'RE tough on the field and some have tough dogs to match but which Gold Coast Titans have pets you wouldn't expect?

YOU probably won't be surprised to hear Gold Coast Titans co-captain Greg Bird has a staffie, or that teammate Beau Falloon owns a beefy bulldog.

But we bet you didn't pick John Cartwright's sidekick.

The gruff coach has a Shih tzu called Yoda and the ball of fluff is enough to bring out his softer side.

"He loves a good hug. He'd sit on you all day if you let him," Cartwright told Gold Coast Eye.

"We don't want to go anywhere without him and were lucky to get such a beautiful natured dog. He is part of the family."
