A YATALA woman is shocked and devastated after her 10 week old Corgi puppy was found dead on the weekend.
Porky the Corgi went missing on Tuesday, August 28 from his Yatala home.
In the days after, Porky’s owner Codie Miller hired Missing and Stolen Pets QLD, a pet detective service, to attempt to find Porky.
On Thursday Ms Miller, her family and the pet detectives thoroughly scoured the property, but found nothing.
On Saturday, one of the detectives found Porky floating in a manhole on the property, which had been covered over with a large flower pot.
“On Thursday we walked all around that area,” one of the detectives said.
“That pot was not in that area when we first searched.
“There is no other entry to that manhole.
“He didn’t get himself in there. It was a cover-up.”
Ms Miller is now paying thousands for a legal necropsy – an animal autopsy – to determine when and how Porky died.
The detectives claim his little body was not decomposed enough for him to have been dead for days.
They suspect he was stolen by an amateur who intended to sell or keep him, but after the huge impact a social media campaign to find Porky had, panicked and attempted to make his death look accidental.
In the days before Porky was found, Ms Miller tried desperately to report the crime to the police and RSPCA, however was told nothing could be done until the puppy was dead.
Even when Porky was found under what the pet detective agency said was a suspicious death, police were still reluctant to take a statement.
Ms Miller said she and her family have suspicions as to who is responsible for Porky’s death and had presented evidence to police.
