RSPCA says man riding emu chick in video used pigs and cows in bizarre exercise regime

UPDATE: QUEENSLAND man in strife for riding a baby emu also used a live calf and a dead pig as part of his exercise regime, the RSPCA says.

A QUEENSLAND man in strife for riding a baby emu also used a live calf and a dead pig as part of his exercise regime, the RSPCA says.

While the man has attracted international attention for his emu riding, the animal rights group says a search of his Facebook account uncovered more bizarre acts of animal cruelty.

"In one video he was using a calf on top of his leg to do leg stretching exercises,'' RSPCA Queensland spokesman Michael Beatty told AAP.

"In another he used a dead pig like a weight.''

In the infamous emu video, the man, identified as Jack Mcmillan from Goondiwindi, holds the emu he calls "Betsy" by the neck and begins to ride, filming with his phone.

He uploaded the video to the "50 Shades of Straya" Facebook page and YouTube at the weekend.

The Facebook link has been liked by more than 13,000 people.

"What most overseas people get confused about Australia is they think we ride kangaroos to work but in actual fact we ride emus," he says in the video.

"Righto girl let's go, off to work we go."

The RSPCA is now investigating the video with the belief the emu was a chick and would have been seriously distressed by the incident.

Mr Mcmillan has defended his actions, calling those who reported him to police "bloody do-gooders".

"So it turns out someone thought my video of the emu was that good they rhought (sic) they should let the coppas no (sic)," he said on the Facebook page.

"Just to clear up if it wasn't for me that emu would of being (sic) dead right now as it was tangled up in a barb wire fence and I cut it out and made a video."

His previous Facebook photos show him posing with animals he has hunted and wrestling another.

He has since renamed himself "Emu Mcm" on social media.

The matter has been referred to the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry.
