NEW Gold Coast City Council statistics have revealed the city’s most popular dogs.
The latest breed figures reveal the Staffordshire bull terrier is the most commonly registered dog, with 5138 currently on the books.
Staffies remain popular, having taken out the top spot in 2016 as well.

It was followed closely by the Maltese and the Labrador retriever, which has jumped from No. 4 to No.3.

The big surprise is the high placing of the toy poodle, of which there are 2561 currently registered.
The breed failed to make the top 10 three years.
Other new players on the list are the Cavalier King Charles spaniel which debuted at No. 7 and the Australian cattle dog at No. 10.
Off the list since 2016 is the Staffordshire bull terrier cross, German shepherd and Australian kelpie cross.
It comes as the Council pushes its dog registration offers brought down in last week’s 2019-20 budget.

More than $403,875 will be spend funding the ongoing free desexed dog registration service for seniors.
From September, defence force veterans will be offered free dog registration, a service which council will spend $125,000 on.
Mayor Tom Tate said it was a valuable service which he was proud to introduce.
