AFTER weeks of living together in foster care this motley crew of pets finally say farewell to one another.

The traditional sworn enemies learned to live in harmony for nine weeks when orphaned kittens Oscar and Arnold had their lives saved by loving fox terrier Gigi.

The two kittens were admitted into Coombabah’s Animal Welfare League shelter two months ago suffering from severe malnutrition.

After volunteers had no luck in matching the pair with another foster cat, it was four-year-old Gigi who stepped in to save the day.

The fox terrier was taking care of her own pup Lucky at the time, when she took the kittens to her heart.

AWLQ’s Brooke Whitney said it was something she had never seen before.

“When (Gigi) came in to the shelter she was heavily pregnant and sadly only one of her puppies survived,” Ms Whitney said.

“When she saw the little kittens which were very malnourished, she took them on and saved their lives.”

Lucky, Oscar and Arnold have become close friends, often playing together and sharing each others toys. The group have also traded some peculiar traits, with Lucky preferring to use kitty litter tray for bathroom breaks.

Saying goodbye to the unlikely family has been a tough ordeal for foster carer Leah Westwood, who has taken care of the animals at her Coomera home for the past nine weeks.

“The kittens loved Gigi and she loved them,” she said.

“It was meant to be for this lot. They are special.”

Ms Whitney said that while she’d like to see the group stay together, the pets are available separately.

All four pets will be desexed, wormed, microchipped and put up for adoption today from the AWLQ Coombabah shelter.
