A BABY white whale has been spotted headed on its migration with mum toward the Gold Coast.
And it has whale watchers in a frenzy.
Could this be famous white whale Migaloo’s love child? It seems not.
The young white humpback whale was spotted by Ballina paraglider Kynan Wall two days ago off Lennox Head and is due to pass the Gold Coast in coming days on its migration to the warmer north Queensland waters.
But hope that Migaloo had an offspring just like himself was quickly dashed with white whale researcher Oskar Peterson confirming it was not uncommon for a whale to be born all white.
“Over the past 10 years we have sighted and captured on film three other small white humpbacks (Migaloo Jrn, Chalkie, Bauloo) and have never seen them again,” he said.
“Usually the pigmentation kicks in and they blend into the herd.”
