THE blue staffy allegedly kicked and choked by its owner in broad daylight has been seized by RSPCA inspectors on the Gold Coast.
Spokesman Michael Beatty said inspectors had this afternoon spoken to the man and seized the dog.
The staffy will be taken to the RSPCA Wacol shelter as the organisation continues to investigate the incident.
It is unknown at this stage whether the man will be charged.
Mr Beatty said from the footage it appeared to be “totally inappropriate handling” of the dog, which seemed to be overexcited.
“You can’t lash out like that.”
It comes as local Tara Lee Barry reported the incident to the RSPCA after witnessing it at the Palm Beach Parklands and filming it.
Ms Barry was enjoying an afternoon near the water when she saw the man and his partner with their dogs and pushed record on her phone.
The young mum posted the video on Facebook, which has quickly gone viral, spreading across news sites and community pages.
The original post has been viewed more than 150,000 times and shared more than 3700.
It reads, “Animal abuse, reported. Just saw this asshole pull up in his ute at Currumbin QLD and get out and closed fist punched his poor blue staffy in the head.”
“Then started kicking it and dragging it around by it’s lead yelling at the dog to ‘settle down’. “The poor dog was just super excited about being at the beach and clearly had no training, plus the guy had no control of the dog with just a collar to lead it. Really needs a gentle leader for better control as they are strong.
“I didn’t say anything as I had Dekoda my baby and the guy seemed pretty aggressive but geez my blood was boiling.
“I made it very clear to him when he noticed me I was filming him in disgust ... terrible filming sorry was tricky with the baby. THIS IS NOT OK! Share.”
Miss Barry said she had made a report to the RSPCA, with the video, the man’s description and car numberplate.
The RSPCA has confirmed they are investigating the incident.
