GOLD Coast pooches are after more than a pat and kennel these days. Owners are forking out up to $200 for blueberry facials and mud masks imported from Israel.
And, no, they say they aren’t barking mad.
Hollywoof Organic Pet Spa officially opens its doors at the Brickworks in Southport tomorrow to meet a growing trend of dog owners wanting to pamper their pooch.
Jade Ott from Hollywoof said Gold Coasters treated their animals like a second child and their grooming needed to reflect that. The dog daycare service costs owners $50 for a full day.
‘JUST ADORABLE’: COAST KOALA NAMED AUSTRALIA’S CUTEST
“Just like when we have a spa day and get our nails done, we want the exact same experience for the dog,” she said.
“Using organic, natural products is really important to us, the mud masks are imported from Israel.
“A lot of pet owners feel guilty for leaving them at home when they go to work or go out shopping, and it’s really great for the dog’s socialisation skills too.”

But while some might howl at the luxurious price tag, Hollywoof operations manager Ronna Burton said the prices were comparable with others on offer.
“The most you’ll pay for grooming here is about $200 – women often spend much more than that at the hairdresser,” she said.
Pet spending has skyrocketed by 90 per cent in Australia over the past four years, with Australians now spending an estimated $600 million a year on grooming alone.
‘I HAVE NIGHTMARES OF MY DOG BEING RIPPED APART’
Eleven-month-old “Groodle” Hank was the first to test the new services.
“There’s so much demand for places like this,” Hank’s owner Heidi Sparavec said.
“I don’t think people are going to blink at the price tag if it’s to do with their dogs. They really want the best for them.”
Hollywoof will host a red carpet open day on Saturday, while there are free blueberry facials for dogs all this week.
