Great Global Greyhound Walk on the Gold Coast as dozens of pets and owners take part
Dozens of hounds and their owners descended upon the Gold Coast as part of a global walk to spread the word about one of the laziest dog breeds around.

THEY may have been bred for sprinting but these athletic hounds are far more comfortable curled up on the couch.

Dozens of greyhounds and their owners left their comfy beds to converge at the Broadwater Parklands for the 10th Annual Great Global Greyhound Walk yesterday.

The walk was just one of hundreds happening across the world on the same day, including countries such as the UK, the U.S., Serbia, New Zealand, Germany and Ireland.
Organiser Kristy Cooney said the walk was a great way to promote the breed, who had traditionally been viewed only as racing dogs.
GREYHOUND PUPS SURRENDERED TO AWLQ NOW NAUGHTY TEENS
“Greyhounds don’t have to wear muzzles anymore on the Gold Coast, which is great,” she said, referring to an outdated rule that saw pet greyhounds muzzled if they had previously raced.
“It makes them look aggressive and people were scared of them, but it just comes from being in the racing industry.
“Greyhounds are super lazy … they don’t take up much space as they don’t need a big backyard.
“Mine sleeps for about 22 hours a day. They’re very chilled dogs.”
GOLD COAST GREYHOUND GETS HER OWN LICENCE
Ms Cooney said she was very happy with the turn out of 38 hounds considering there were two more walks in Brisbane, as well as another in Logan.
For those unable to adopt, there were a number of good rescue groups which foster, she said.
Friends of the Hound, Gumtree Greys and the Animal Welfare League of Queensland all have adoption programs on the Gold Coast.
