Dog Elsie refuses to walk down street

A GOLD Coast pooch has become an internet sensation – after doggedly refusing to go walkies.

Stubborn Elsie the Golden Retriever caught the attention of passers-by in Nobbys Beach when she lay down on the path and refused to go any further for owner Mike Cook.

The unusual scene was filmed by Gold Coaster Kayla Evans and widely shared on social media, attracting 55 million views on Facebook and another 2 million on TikTok.

“A friend found it on Facebook and I cannot believe how many views it has got,” Mr Cook said.

“As you can see sometimes our morning walks go really well and sometimes they don’t.

“It all depends what mood she is in and whether she’s eaten or not.

“This day we went before dinner and got about 100m.”

Many people expressed concern that Elsie might be unwell, but Mr Cook said her only issue was her attitude.

“She has a lot of character and very good at telling me what she doesn’t like,” the 42-year-old small business owner laughed.

“She loves the water, adventuring, four-wheel driving and children.

“As soon as you grab the keys to the truck she will run out and jump in the back seat.

“We are best friends and go everywhere together, including to Cape York and Birdsville.”

Mr Cook said Elsie had a few party tricks – beyond playing dead when he tries to take her for a walk.

“Her best trick is counting to five and reading minds,” he said.

“If you think of a number between one and five and you tell me what it is then she will guess the number by touching my hand with her paw.

“I want her to try and guess the lottery numbers but she is not doing so well yet.”

Elsie was also snapped in 2017 refusing to walk, which attracted more than 15 million views.

The Nobbys Beach resident agrees with Tik Tok fans his pooch was “special”.

“But please do not tell her she is famous because it will go to her head,” he laughed
