DOG lovers will soon have a regular pet-only market when Dogs on the Green starts on the Gold Coast.

Rosalie Sulfaro, owner of pet accessory and clothing label Doggie Daywear, plans to launch the Gold Coast’s first quarterly dog markets in May this year, with the aim of making it monthly with sustained interest.

The Merrimac resident said she wanted to get the project underway after realising there were no “purely dog-related” markets occurring regularly in the area, and at most once a year.

Ms Sulfaro said the markets would be held at a park at Merrimac with about 40 stalls.

She said she had already had more than two dozen inquiries from potential stall holders.

“If you think just years ago there were no doggie day cares, no doggie clothes, but now we’ve got so many services,” she said.

“Dogs have come such a long way in their standing. The other dog markets we’ve travelled to have been so, so popular.

“Last year my sales were up 25 per cent from the year before.”

Ms Sulfaro was confident of organising an array of interesting stalls for the markets.

Stalls were likely to include local artists, rescue groups, clothing and accessories, dog cakes, canine lager, treats and food.

Dogs would also be able to receive a massage from qualified masseurs.

The markets would likely be held for half a day on May 26.
