WORKERS at Aqualuma LED Lighting in Helensvale got the surprise of their lives last week when they found a koala in their warehouse.
However their surprise turned to sadness when it was realised the koala was suffering from multiple wounds after a suspected dog attack.
The mammal, since named ‘Lumi’ in a nod to where it was found, was rescued from the warehouse on July 9 and admitted for treatment at Currumbin Wildlife Hospital.
Dr Michael Pyne, Senior Vet of Currumbin Wildlife Hospital, said he would determine whether Lumi was ready for release after his recheck today.
“These healthy, chlamydia-free male koalas are so important for the future of koalas and we hope to get him back out into the wild as soon as possible,” he said.
“We have been treating Lumi over the past week and his recheck … will give us an idea of his release date.”
