A Benowa street is being plagued by repeated dog baiting attempts with razor blades and sewing needles planted in yards

A SERIAL dog baiter is targeting a Gold Coast neighbourhood, lacing yards with razor blades, needles and shards of glass. Now families are too scared to let young children play in backyards.

A BENOWA family has been shocked to find razor blades and sewing needles planted in their backyard which they say was a deliberate attack on their family dog.

The distraught Royal Pines residents have also had dog excrement laced with sewing needles thrown onto their second floor balcony in what has been described as a “warning” and a threat against their family pet.

Kim Williams said she won’t allow her 6-year-old daughter play in their backyard for fear she will pick up a rusty razor blade or stand on a needle after English Staffy Zeus was viciously targeted on multiple occasions.

“We were so shocked, on Sunday afternoon we found two razor blades in the yard, and one that was broken into four smaller pieces,” she said.

“We spoke to the neighbours and another dog was poisoned with rat sak four houses away on Monday morning.

“We had to keep our dog Zeus inside but then someone threw dog faeces on our second floor balcony with sewing needles in it and it was embedded with shards of glass.”

Since then the family have found more razor blades in their yard and found small pieces of sharp metal in Zeus’s excrement.

Zeus was rushed to the Animal Emergency Hospital at Carrara and went under sedation to have blood tests and a full body x-ray to look for internal damage.

Thankfully he was given the all-clear — after a $1000 vet bill — but now the Williams family are weary of leaving their beloved pet alone, for fear of another attack.
“We are considering moving house because it is not worth the risk,” she said.

“There is someone targeting dogs in our neighbourhood and I am not sure of their motives but it is such an evil act.

“Our dog doesn’t bark and we always pick up his droppings so it is definitely a misfired attack, someone seems to be targeting all dogs in the area.”

“It is not only a risk to our pets, but now children can’t play freely for risk of being hurt.”

Michael Beatty said the RSPCA has been notified of two cases in the street and said an investigation would be conducted after police refereed the matter the organisation.

“It is very concerning, and it must come from a very warped individual who thinks their first point of call would be to harm dogs instead of addressing any perceived issues with neighbours first,” he said.

“We urge anyone to come forward with information to help with the investigation.”

This is not an isolated incident in the street.

A neighbour’s pet, Baxter the French Bulldog, recently ingested razor blades with the owners copping a $15,000 vet bill for surgeries and xrays.
