HAIRSTYLES are going back to the 80s this year with perms expected to make a comeback.
But Varsity Lakes hairdresser Hayley Kidson said people should be careful what they wished for.
“You need to set realistic expectations,” Ms Kidson said.
“There are definitely people who come in that aren’t educated or don’t really know what perms are and might leave disappointed.”
Ms Kidson, who has owned Minogue Hairdressing for eight years, said she was launching a new perm in April.
“People are more time poor than ever so I think that’s why they’re making a comeback,” she said.
“It enhances your natural curl and means you spend much less time doing your hair in the morning.

“But perms don’t have to be tight and frizzy like they were in the 80s ... we’re launching a new perm with different proteins and keratin in it which makes the hair less frizzy and actually protects it.
“The new formula will give the hair more texture and movement, I think it will be popular.”
However, Ms Kidson warned that everyone’s hair reacted differently to a perm.
“Lots of people want those amazing Hollywood blowout style curls and that’s just not always going to work for your hair,” she said.
“If you’re thinking of getting a perm this year, first consider the condition of your hair, whether there’s any colour in it and have realistic expectations.”
