There are few feelings more vulnerable than standing in a store’s changing room.
Will the door lock? Will it have curtains that don’t quite close on the sides? Will there be a mirror, or will I have to subject myself to the weird communal one?
But, thanks to one woman’s post on TikTok, it’s a new feature at Cotton On Body that’s got people talking.

‘What is this?’
This week, a Sydney woman took to TikTok, posting about a new feature she noticed in her changing room in a Cotton On Body store.
“Cotton On Body, what is this?” she said in the video, which is captioned ‘criminal’.
“Who is actually using this…”
In the video, you can see a smaller, head-sized peep hole within the door, locked closed with a latch.

People are divided
Immediately after posting, the video’s comments were flooded with support for the feature, explaining why it might be beneficial for people trying on clothes.
“Omg all changing rooms need this I’m so tired of random people seeing me [naked],” one comment said.
“When I was younger and first started trying on bras, it was like a little peep hole for Mums to check in on their daughters instead of opening the door to the public, I think,” said another.
“It’s so you can pop your head out and say ‘Mum. Come look at this.”,” a third said.
“Girl! No way, that invention is AMAZING,” another began.
“No more getting dressed to open the door and ask your friend to get a diff size I actually love this.”
However, many also agreed with the original poster, unsure if the idea had any real purpose.
“It’s literally so easy to just hide a little behind the door and poke your head out though,” one commenter responded.
“Like I know it’s locked from the inside, but every part of me feels like it’s gonna pop open while I’m mid getting changed,” another said.
“Seems kind of pointless when there’s a mirror behind you,” said a third.
A spokesperson from Cotton On Body said that they've heard the feedback around the feature.
"The fitting room design feature was rolled out in select Cotton On Body stores to support our customers in finding their perfect fit," they said.
"Lockable from the customer side, this feature allowed customers to easily discuss product options and sizing with Cotton On Body team members, while maintaining their privacy.
"As we continue listening to customer feedback to help us deliver an incredible shopping experience, we have introduced a new Cotton On Body fitting room design which includes replacing this feature with standard fitting room doors in all existing and future locations."
