Three children in critical condition after fire rips through Melbourne home

Three children are in critical condition after a fire broke out in their Melbourne home overnight.
Emergency services were called to the Sydenham property at roughly 9.30 Sunday night following reports of a house fire.
Inside the single-storey brick building were three young children, who became trapped as the fire raged through the roof and engulfed the entire property.

It’s understood 30 firefighters arrived on the scene and managed to contain the fire.
Once the flames were under control, emergency responders found three children inside the property.

“Three children were rescued from the house by firefighters who conducted emergency medical response alongside Ambulance Victoria,” a spokesperson from Fire Rescue said in a statement per the Herald Sun.
The children are believed to be under five years old and were treated by paramedics at the scene.

They were rushed to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.
Neighbours are being assessed for smoke inhalation; however, the flames didn’t spread to any other properties.

It’s not known whether the children's parents were on the property when the fire broke out.
Victoria Police have launched an investigation into the fire and have urged anyone with information to come forward or contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
