Mum shares sneaky way to get kids to eat more veg

“Welcome to another episode of My Kids Only Eat Beige Shit,” an Aussie mum began a TikTok video that’s resonated with thousands of parents.

Kate William’s toddlers are going through the fussy stage of eating and won’t touch fruit, veggies or anything that’s remotely colourful.

So, she's had to have various tips and tricks up her sleeve to ensure they get in their five a day, including making ‘faux’ sausage rolls packed full of veggies.

The sneaky tip to ensure your kids get their veggies

While chopping up veggies, she explains, “Today we are making Veggie Packed Faux Sausage Rolls.”

"Start by roughly chopping up a zucchini, a sweet potato and an onion," she continues.

“Blitz it up so it’s nice and fine and your children cannot detect a single veggie. Then you want to put in two tablespoons of minced garlic, two tablespoons of tomato paste, two tablespoons of Worcestershire sauce, three-quarters of a cup of breadcrumbs, a tin of lentils and two eggs until it looks like meat.”

She then got five to six puff pastry sheets and cut them in half.

“We’re going to do two rolls per sheet,” she says, adding about three tablespoons of ‘mince’ mixture to each roll.

''Then egg-wash down the side and stick it all together,” she concludes.

After cutting each roll into three pieces, she puts them on a tray and into the freezer overnight so they’re ready to go the next day.

To bake them, she says to just pop them in your air fryer or oven at 200 degrees for ten minutes.

“You can also cook them from fresh,” she adds, before claiming they’re a hit with her whole family. “Even my fussy as all hell three-year-old, who literally won’t even eat chicken nuggets.”

"That's actually so smart"

Commenters praised the mum for the tip, with one person saying, “I’ve never thought of this, legend! I too have beige food kids.”

Someone else wrote, “I can tell they taste soooo good because mum does the same thing, she just uses whatever veggies she has.”

“I'm using this recipe to trick myself into eating veggies,” a third quipped.

“That’s actually so smart. They straight up do look like sausage rolls, yet it’s jam packed with nutrients and veggies. Good job,” a fourth concluded.
