The terrifying event that inspired a children’s book series about resilience
Imagine fleeing with your children in the middle of the night as an earthquake shook your home around you? That’s what happened to today’s guest, and the aftermath of that experience gave her the inspiration for a series of kids’ books called My Big Moments. In November 2016, journalist and writer Hannah Davison and her two children had to flee from their crumbling home in the middle of the night, as a 7.8 magnitude earthquake rocked New Zealand. They were just 10km from the epicentre. As Hannah guided her children through the trauma afterwards, she realised that the children’s book series idea she had with her friend and fellow mother Flicka Williams, could provide a lifeline to parents like herself, during challenging times.
