A young mum has demanded answers after her toddler walked out of a daycare centre and onto a busy road.
Dashcam video released byNine, shows two young children walking from Goodstart Childcare Centre in Adelaide, headed towards Main North Road at about 10am on Monday.
“I am pretty furious. There’s no excuse,” mother Makayla Lill said.
When staff realised the toddlers had escaped through a damaged fence, they ran to retrieve them. The incident is now under investigation.
9News contacted the centre, informing them it had seen the video.
The centre then contacted Ms Lill.
“The first thing she said was ‘I’m just letting you know Wyatt is safe’”, Ms Lill said.
“That straight away makes you think ‘What’s happened?’”
The mother said staff told her the gap in the fence was missed on a routine perimeter check.
Some parents said they would pull their kids from the centre. Others said they hoped it was just an isolated incident.
Makayla Lill has made a formal complaint with the centre.
South Australian Premier Peter Malinauskas asked if SafeWork has a role.
“I think any parent would be horrified when they see these images. They’re pretty confronting. “I think it begs the question of what went wrong in this circumstance?” Malinauskas said.
News.com.au has contacted the centre for comment.
