‘Please help… a lowlife stole the tiara off my daughter’s grave’

“It sat on her bed before we laid her to rest and it means so much,” the heartbroken mum said, asking for members of the Gold Coast community to come forward with information.

How to deal with grief and the loss of a loved one

When three-year-old Brittney Conway passed away at Queensland Children’s Hospital, her parents were devastated.

The little girl accidentally ingested a battery and tragically nothing could be done to save her life.

Her parents kept vigil by her hospital, placing a silver tiara sat on her death bed before it was locked inside a glass cabinet built into her gravestone.

Over the weekend, the glass cabinet was forced open and the tiara stolen.

“Please help,” Brittney’s mum Lorraine posted on community Facebook pages over the weekend.

“Some lowlife stole my daughter’s tiara from her lockbox on her grave in Mudgeeraba Cemetery.

“It was her tiara that sat on her final bed before we laid her to rest, that’s why it means so much.”

Lorraine described her daughter as a “content and happy little girl” with a “beautiful nature”.

“She had a thousand sparkles in her eyes,” she told the ABC.

The Courier-Mail spoke to Gold Coast district police officer Craig Hanlon, who said police became aware of the theft from social media.

“She would be happy if [the tiara was returned] and not get police involved,” he said.

Lorraine appealed to the thief, begging them to return the item, no questions asked.

“They haven’t thought about how much of an impact it has had on the family,” she told 7News.
