‘My parents named all their kids after the alphabet - its the perfect novelty’

“People remember our names because of it,” Lauren laughed.

A woman has gone viral after revealing that her siblings' names are all connected in a very unique way. 

It wasn’t exactly an accident, either. 

Lauren Humphreys, a mum-of-two from the US, is one of six siblings who were all named to corresponding letters of the alphabet.

“People remember our names because of it” 

In a now-viral TikTok, Lauren revealed that her parents “had six kids and named us in alphabetical order”.  

Commonly known as the “Alphabet Kids” in their circles, the siblings said sharing such a “novelty” selection of names has brought them closer together.

What are their names, you may ask? 

Let me introduce you: Jolene, Kelsie, Lauren, Matthew, Nolan and Olivia, which, put together, spells “JKLMNO”. 

The tradition began completely coincidentally, Lauren said in a follow-up clip.

The moment Lauren’s parents learned they were starting a family, they’d hoped to have a boy named Matthew. However, their first child was a daughter, so they instead called her Jolene. Next up was their second daughter, Kelsie.

By the time they welcomed their third child, “they realised they have the J K going”, so they named their daughter Lauren. 

The American woman explained that if she were born a boy, her parents would have called her Luke. When their fourth child came along, this time a boy, the parents were finally able to use the name Matthew, which “was the preferred boy name they always wanted”. 

After that, they welcomed Nolan, who would have been Norah if he were a girl, and finally, Olivia.

Now aged between 24 and 36, they cherish their "novelty" names, which come with their own perks. “People remember our names because of it,” Lauren laughed. 

It doubles as a little party trick, too. 

Speaking to People, Lauren described the hilarious way they celebrate their alphabetised initials through the form of their “signature” pose, twisting and contorting their bodies to recreate the letters of their initials. 

The photo in the original viral TikTok was taken at Nolan’s wedding in June this year. “All six of us are now married, and we did a letter pose photo at each of our siblings’ weddings,” Lauren said. “The photographers always found it hilarious.”

Will the tradition live on?

Naming your kids after letters in the alphabet is something you’d certainly expect to see in Bridgerton, but in real life?

Lauren's initial video amassed over three million views, and it looks like her family aren’t the only ones with a taste for naming kids in alphabetical order.  

“This is how my kids are named!” wrote a parent. “My seven are in alphabetical order, too,” a proud mum added. “We started at A, though.” 

“My sisters and I all had the same initials and same number of syllables in our names,” another penned. 

Others celebrated the parents’ creativity. “So cool to consecutive alphabetical order kids whose names do not start with A,” a comment read. 

Some took the tradition to the next generation. “My Parents did ABCD, so when my sister had my nephew, she kept it going with an E name, and in November, my wife and I are [having] baby F,” a person said. 

As for Lauren and her siblings? It seems they're not so keen on continuing the tradition.

“None of us have truly carried on the alphabet naming convention,” she told People. 

She has two of her own kids, named Mitchell and Natalie, which is still somewhat alphabetical if you think about it. “Technically alphabetical but not as significant with just two,” she joked.
