“For a man who isn’t very emotional, there were lots of emotions yesterday, lots of tears on his behalf because he could see how upset I was.”

Forgetful fiance loses Adelaide bride's $2000 dress

A bride-to-be has been left scrambling after her partner accidentally lost her wedding dress.

Lindel Cain and her fiance Tom Mitton were picking up items from a storage facility in Adelaide this week, including Lindel’s $2000 wedding dress.

7News reports Tom placed the box containing the dress on the car roof so it wouldn’t be crushed by other items, but forgot to put it back in the car before they left.

“We were pulling into Burnside Village (shopping centre) when the penny dropped for him, and we quickly turned around and tried to retrace our steps,” Lindel told 7News.

“We parked the car and walked along Port Wakefield Rd with trucks going 90km/h past us, trying to find the box somewhere on the side of the road.”

"You're an idiot - how did you manage to do that?"

Tom told Sunrise Lindel had a few choice words for him when they realised his error.

“There were a few expletives, it was just: ‘you’re an idiot - how did you manage to do that?” he said.

“I was feeling very angry and upset with myself - I think I was more feeling for Lindel, who has been very good throughout all of it.

“It certainly wasn’t my greatest idea, and I think that me being her today is a sign of my stupidity.

“We were just wanting to get it back initially, but unfortunately, we’ve had no luck at all.”

"The community has been amazing"

The couple is offering a $500 reward for anyone who finds the box with the dress, and have also been offered a loan dress from a local bridal shop if they can’t find it.

“One lady offered to drive around with her toddlers in the car looking on the side of the road,” Tom told Sunrise.

“There have been a few other people who have checked security camera footage along the way.

“The community has been amazing.”

"It's going to make a very good speech at the wedding"

Fortunately for Tom, Lindel has managed to see the funny side of her predicament.

“It’s going to make a very good speech at the wedding,” she told 7News.

“For a man who isn’t very emotional, there were lots of emotions yesterday, lots of tears on his behalf because he could see how upset I was.”

7News reports the couple won’t be married until February next year, so they’ve got plenty of time to find the dress.
